DNA sequencing is the determination of the order of nucleotide bases (adenine, guanine, cytosine, and thymine) in a DNA molecule.
Knowledge of DNA sequences has become indispensable in many fields such as basic biology, biotechnology, forensic science, and medical diagnosis. DNA sequencing has accelerated biological research and discoveries. Thanks to the rapid DNA sequencing, made possible by modern DNA sequencing technologies, the Human Genome Project was able to sequence the human genome. Similar projects have produced complete sequences of many animal, plant, and microbe genomes.
The first DNA sequences were obtained in the early 1970s by university researchers using laborious methods based on two-dimensional chromatography. With the development of dye-based sequencing methods with automated analysis [1], DNA sequencing has become much easier and faster.
